Lucky for me, I managed not to have any bad luck today! My teacher explained that in Italy, it's Friday the 17th instead, so it looks like I'll manage to avoid their unlucky time.
In fact, I had a pretty great day, although it started off as sort of a confusing one! My first class begins with reviewing our homework from the previous night. Today was no different, but as it turns out, the homework was riddled with a complicated grammatical phenomenon none of us knew about. We actually had to spend the first hour and a half going through it, because it's one of those really obscure things that's really hard to explain. The worst part is, it's a fine point of a topic we thought we knew, so it took some getting used to. We played Italian Taboo afterwards though, which totally made it worth it! All that time playing with my cousins has paid off. The teams ended up tying, which was surprising since my team had a considerable lead for most of the time. Also, because it's the end of the week, several of my classmates are finished now. Unfortunately, they're the ones I've gotten to know the best! So, Monday will probably bring a few new students.
In my second class, we talked about love. Love at first sight, marriage, dramatic relationships, the works. Amazingly, we didn't make it personal at all, just talked about it as sort of a phenomenon. I feel like we could have gone a lot deeper than we did, because we didn't talk about any good stories with true love or anything. I think that's more the direction I expected it to go, but it was mostly a vocabulary session as we learned lots of new amorous terms.
After class, I actually did a little shopping! (This is very unusual for me.) I ended up getting a few things for some friends, as well as something for me- a Percy Jackson collection in Italian. That's another thing I've really missed- reading. I didn't bring any books with me because I didn't want to carry around the extra weight, but this is a souvenir. Besides, reading Harry Potter in other languages has really helped me, so I figured, why not?
Unfortunately no adventuring has happened today, since my roommates ended up having plans. (Shocking, right?) But that's okay. Honestly, I'm glad to just relax and enjoy a Friday night. I think I had a pretty decent first week, but everyone knows Saturdays are the best!
Ha! Proof that Friday the 13 is just made up and silly. 13 is a wonderful number and no one can tell me any different. Keep on keepin' on!
