Move-In Day

I think my vacation has officially come to an end! Tonight I face my first school night in over a month as I prepare for my first class tomorrow. I'll have to first endure the scary task of my placement test, which will determine what level of class I will be in. I have to make at least B1 (A1 and A2 are lower, with B2, C1, and C2 higher) in order to get credit for OSU. The problem is, I have no idea what that entails and if my three semesters of Italian have rendered me capable... my family can vouch for the fact that I'm kind of freaking out about it!

In the midst of panicking, my family helped me move into my new apartment today. The people who met us here and showed us around were really nice, so I'm looking forward to my stay here! It's not at all like the email said, which described it as a single room self catered apartment with a shared bathroom and kitchen. Instead, it's basically a suite that I share with two other people, though I have my own room. There are two bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, a living room, and even a balcony! There's no AC or wi-fi, but we got a fan while we were out, and there's a pretty decent nearby signal that I am currently using.

We went shopping for a few essentials, meaning that my mom got to look around an Italian supermarket. In Europe it's much more common to have smaller specialty stores, so a big market like that is harder to find. Fortunately, there's one very close by! (That's not to say I can find it again.) They have far fewer products, and even fewer brands of each product. Still, we got stuff like pasta, strawberries, milk, and the like, so I should be set for at least a couple of days, until we can go shopping again.

One of my roommates, Bart, had already moved in, but he was out with friends all day, so I haven't met him yet. I only even know his name because of a note he left. My other roommate (a girl) is supposed to be here sometime tonight, but I haven't met her yet either. I am reminded of being the first to move into my dorm at Ohio State and eagerly awaiting the arrival of my three wonderful roommates, though the four of us had been emailing back and forth for some time before actually meeting. This will be a first encounter for all of us!

Since it's already pretty late, I guess I won't be posting anything about them tonight! Tomorrow I'll tell you all about my first day and (hopefully) details about my roommates!

My room.

The living room. (My room is behind the glass doors on the right.)

The bathroom.

The dining room.

The kitchen.

The view from the balcony. Not bad!

  1. Oh boy, it looks like you have a bidet. I hope your roommates are wonderful and that you have a stupendous time in Rome. Don't worry about your placement test - you're a super-genius at languages - so there!

  2. I think the apartment setup was quite nice. Being close to the train and bus stops is also pretty nice.
