This week went surprisingly fast! If the next two weeks go like this, I'll be home before I know it!
My first class today was totally chill. Only four people even showed up, because we've already taken the test, so there wasn't anything to really do. So we split into groups and tried to see who could come up with the funniest captions for some blank comics. Alex and I won, obviously. We also had a really cool discussion about the Roman dialect- every city has its own little things it changes from standard Italian, so it was basically a linguistics discussion about some of these changes in Rome. It was really interesting, but since my teachers teach using standard Italian and my friends are from just about everywhere else, I haven't gotten to hear much of it!
Our topic of conversation in my second class was "How Distracted Are You?" We got a quiz with various things you might do, like forgetting appointments, misplacing your phone, or even forgetting how old you are. We had a good laugh, because if anyone got caught daydreaming, we had all rights to make fun of them today. There was a moment when a cloud covered the sun much faster than usual, and because the lights were out, we just saw the room suddenly get really dark. And we all stopped what we were doing and just stared out the window... until our teacher asked us how our work was coming. And laughter ensued.
Lena-Lisa finished today, which was sad. She's the only person I've known since Day 1 that has been in class every day, so I've gotten to know her better than anyone else. (Not to say I won't continue to enjoy this class, because everyone else is great too- it's just that it will be weird without her.) Still, we're friends on Facebook now, along with several other classmates. I think one of my favorite parts of this experience has definitely been meeting people from new places. From this trip alone, I have already made friends from 16 different countries, and there are probably more to come! My new roommates might be from somewhere else, and I still have two more weeks with new classmates to meet!
My friend Alex and I have been trying to make some plans together (thanks to our teacher- we're the youngest in the class, and she's seen how well we get on when we work together, so she told us we should do stuff outside class too), and although nothing worked out for tonight, it sounds like tomorrow we're going to try to meet up for lunch and see what else comes our way!
